How to Price Your Live Act for Private Events
The factors that should shape your rate, and how to quote so buyers understand the value.
Start with your real costs
Add up what a gig actually costs you: every performer's pay, gear wear and replacement, travel, rehearsal time, insurance and the hours spent on emails and planning. Your rate has to cover all of it before it earns you anything.
Adjust for the factors buyers understand
- Date and season: Saturdays in peak season are worth more than a Tuesday in January.
- Hours and sets: performance time, plus extra for ceremony or cocktail coverage.
- Lineup size: more performers, higher rate.
- Travel: distance, overnight stays and flights.
- Production: sound, lighting and backline you provide.
- Customization: special songs, custom material or branded routines.
Quote clearly
A clear quote builds trust. List the date, hours, what's included, travel and your deposit and cancellation terms. Buyers are more comfortable paying a fair price when they can see what they're getting.
Know when to be flexible
Off-peak dates, weeknights and events near your home base are good places to offer a better rate. Being flexible there helps you fill your calendar without lowering your peak-date pricing.
